Trust | The Apex Blog | Jan Almasy

If you had a list of people that you trust, would you put your name down?

Some people may recognize this as a line from a song by popular rapper NF. So first things first, if you haven’t listened to him before, GO DO IT NOW. Nate has had an extremely deep impact on me, my writing, what I choose to record for the show, and how I operate as a human.

But something about that one line in particular really hit me…

What happens to someone when they can’t even trust themselves?

I know exactly what happens. It leads to a dark dark place with a very VERY dim light at the end of the tunnel.

If you can even see one…

If you’re in that place right now, and no-one else knows because throughout your life you’ve gotten extremely good at hiding your internal pain and struggle. Know that I hear you. I FEEL YOU.

Most importantly. I’m here for you.
Waking up every morning with goals and the best of intentions to change your life, but every time you start to walk down that road a barrage of memories blindside you like a mack truck.

Memories of previous failures.

People abandoning you.

You not being good enough.

So… You decide to skip out on the steps that could have brought you closer to the light.

And you start to distrust yourself… and others…

If you can’t even count on YOU to come through for YOU… HOW COULD YOU EVER TRUST SOMEONE ELSE TO HAVE YOUR BACK?!

I’m telling you right now. I may not know you personally. I may not know EXACTLY what you’re going through.

But I do know that you can trust me, and there are others out there that you can trust. Even if you don’t currently trust yourself, sometimes the hardest person to learn how to trust is ourselves.

Our emotions send us into downward spirals and we tend to isolate… which makes it worse.

I’ve been to the bottom of the pit… I make visits there more often than you’d think.

If I ever see you down there, we can hold hands and guide each other back out…

But I’ll need you to trust me...
